THD (Transanal Hemorrhoidal Dearterialization) is a minimally invasive surgical approach to treating the source of the hemorrhoids. There is no surgical removal of tissue, so there is there is minimal post-operative pain. THD is offered as an out patient procedure which gets you back to normal activities quickly.
THD uses a doppler to locate the arteries feeding blood to the hemorrhoidal. Once located, your surgeon uses an absorbable suture to tie off the blood supply. The procedure takes about 30 minutes and is offered as an out-patient surgery.
THD is usually done for small to medium internal hemorrhoids that fail conservative management.
